CAT PHILES

The Furball Zone

Brazen Red-Pawed Thievery

We have some majorly spoiled "masters" in the house and they sure have their Meowmie going these days. I'm talking especially about Omar and Midnight -- the 2 kitties most displeased with Tucker's presence and who are exacting revenge. Omar, in particular, my slim ticked-off orange boy who really wishes Tucker, the former wild but now tubbier orange boy, would just go away! Since Tucker was added to our household, Omar has definitely been seeking to exert some form of dominance and it has taken the form of breaking and entering closed closet doors (!) to get at the dry cat food (also stored inside a plastic pitcher with a lid) or knocking said food-filled plastic pitcher off the counter to knock the lid off and feast on the spilled goodies. He has become so talented in this regard that I now keep the pitcher of food in the garage! This also goes for pilfering food off the kitchen counters, trying to run off with bones from the finished dinner plates as well as the not-so-finished dinner plates(that become prematurely finished). Meat or cheese sandwiches and dairy products dare not be left unattended on the counter either! Brazen rascal!

Then there is Midnight, who pilfers bagels at midnight, I guess 'cause the wrappers on the bagel packages are often mutilated with mangled bagel bites when I come out for breakfast in the A.M. She is getting bolder though. On Saturday I had parked a cinnamon raisin bagel on a plate on the kitchen counter and was reaching into the refrigerator to get some cream cheese (oh, and Omar wants to shoulder his way to the cream cheese, too) when I heard my DH snickering. I turned around and watched Midnight making off with MY bagel! She did have the grace to look "minimally" guilty but she left me deciding how many puncture marks are "okay." Later that night, she obviously felt the call of the wild bagel and made very strong headway into DH's bag of "everything" bagels (only 3 of 5 survived the experience). I was not amused and felt sure DH would be even less amused so I removed the 2 chewed on bagels and wrapped the others up and put them in the 'fridge.

I've bought more bagels and must remember to move them tonight! Ummm...think I'll go move them NOW!
