I ordered a small cabinet from IKEA. I planned to put it on my windowsill inside so the cats would have a good place to sit and watch the world go by. I have half curtains covering the lower half of the window, so they cannot see out very well. On top of the cabinet, they will be able to see better. The note came from the post office that the package had arrived today, and I went to fetch it (I am supposed to work on my PhD in the mornings). The post office is only a few houses away from mine, but the package weighed a ton, and I was lugging it along, thinking I will never get home, when fortunately I saw our nice and kind janitor standing gossiping with the guy who keeps a kiosk in the ground floor of our house. When he spotted me lugging a huge package, he rushed to my help and brought it home.
When I said what the cabinet was for, he told me he saw a little black tail sticking out my window this morning. Nikki had sat there chilling her tail. Just another one of the strange things Nikki does.
Well, I managed to put the cabinet together from all those small bits, and set it on the windowsill. I showed it to the cats. First I lifted up Nikki on it, then Frank. Both glanced outside, then jumped down. Then I had to rush off to work.
When I came home, both cats were sleeping in... the huge cardboard box the cabinet pieces came in. I still have not managed to convince them to spend any time on the cabinet.
Dratted cats.
