This list is divided into two parts:
PART 1: To a cat, two is better than one because...
PART 2: To a human, two is better than one because...
PART 1: To a cat, two is better than one because:
Kumani:
- Before we had Nox and Smokey and before we had Mom and MomDad, all I had in the world was my sister Tyche.
- I like to lick my sister!
- It is less scary at the vet when Tyche is there with me!
Tyche:
- It hurts when I bite my tail but it doesn't hurt me when I bite hers!
- My sister makes the chair warmer! Then I plop on top of her!
- I learned cat behaviours from Smokey and Nocturne because Mom and MomDad took us in when we were three weeks old! Mom and MomDad are humans and don't know how to be cats!
Smokey:
- Having lots of cats is cool cuz Nox is mean and stuff but the kittens let me lick 'em an' play with 'em.
- I can teach the kittens my elite survival skillz an' stuff. Like how to open a garbage pail lid. And how if you cry really sad-like, people will give you bites of pizza.
- Kittens get kitten food. I like kitten food. It's tasty and makes me fat. They let me have the leftovers. Mmm. Leftovers.
Nocturne:
- The kittens distract that cretin Smokey from disturbing me.
- The kittens are submissive unto me, therefore serving as excellent role models for the human slaves.
- I shall mold the kittens in mine own image, and they shall sit at my right and left paw in the new feline world order.
by Kumani, Tyche, Smokey, & Nocturne (as dictated to Enfilade)
- We can wake up both humans at the same time by biting their toes.
- We always have someone to play with when the humans are grumpy at 5:00AM morning and won't join in.
- The humans can only chase one of us at a time when it's time to come back in the house.
- Each human gets a kitty to stroke if they want a cuddle.
- We love each other very much.
by Floyd & Candy (as dictated to Loz)
- Three cats outnumber one dog no matter how much bigger the dog is!
by Mack, Gypsy, & Mookie
- We used to only have ONE Litter tray in the house ....Now we have SEVEN!! (Jill's 14-year-old "Minnie")
by Jill M. Tricco
- In the event of a FLODI, you have someone to laugh with you. (FLODI = Feline Loss Of Dignity Incident. Generic term for any embarrassing mishap.)
by Dave C.
- Being cleaned behind your ears and on your forehead by a rough kitty tongue is so much more satisfying than a spit covered paw.
by Julie Cook
- It's much more interesting to sniff somebody else's butt.
by Victor M. Martinez, Jr.
- Mommy can't get mad at either of us, because the owner of the hairball that was hacked up in the middle of the night is unknown. (Right on her side of the bed, no less. Mmmm, a slightly warm sticky mess under her foot in the morning!)
- Sometimes my brother doesn't finish his morning treat and I get to clean his bowl. (from Chewie)
- Sunbeams are that much warmer when there are two of us in it.
- It is much more fun to play with another kitty's tail.
by Becky
- Two or more cats have more fun stealing and trading food dishes.
by Catherine Jo Sadler
- It's not nearly as much fun to play the "Chase Me" game with an imaginary kitty.
by Ginger-lyn Summer
- You can blame the *stinky poo* in the litter tray on someone else!
by Helen Miles
- The other one is bound to do something naughty before long and Mum will forget that you just had a dig in her new house plant pot while she's scolding her, making you *good* again by comparison. (from Panther)
by Jan Russell
- There's always someone else to take the blame for *today's* broken vase/glass/plate/whatever-it-was-THIS-time.
by Janice Munday
- When you get bored, you can always chase your brother (or sister) for a laugh.
by Karen Chuplis
- The other cat always finds a better sleeping place to try out. (Frank)
- The other cat can beg for food, which I can then eat. (Nikki)
by Marina Kurten
- It's much warmer to sleep cuddled with another kitty than to sleep by yourself.
by MP Tam
- If you work it right, two cats can con the humans out of more food than one cat can.
- It's easier to keep the humans guessing with two cats.
- You can share ideas about the best places to sleep.
by Pam Shirk
- Being together isn't as scary as being alone.
by Perry Smith
- No-one can play Tumble-swat-bities like another kitty. Humans squish you if they try.
by Siobhan Motherway
- Unless they catch you in the act, the humans don't know which of us two kitties missed the litterbox or horked up the barf on the Persian rug.
by Paula K.
PART 2: To a human, two is better than one because:
- I get to snuggle with one while the other two run around like maniacs. I think I am home base and that they switch off like a tag team.
by Ina Gher
- They keep each other occupied.
- They keep each other from being lonely.
- There are many 'keep together' cats needing homes.
- Two cats require just about the same amount of care as one cat.
- The unconditional love is doubled.
by Roger Hooker
- They can play together while you are at work.
by Polonca Kramar
- They are great company for each other.
- Two are more entertaining than one because they interact.
- They are less likely to be fussy about their food if there is competition for it.
by Jeanette Greaves
- Not only can they play together, keeping each other from being bored, but they can provide four times the entertainment as one cat. You know, 2x2, 3x3, and so on...
by Pam Shirk
- They keep each other occupied, causing less damage to the house.
- Besides, taking care of two is no more work than taking care of one.
by Marina Kurten
- When they want to play at 2:00AM they have each other - not you.
- If they are alone during the day they have each other - not the drapes.
- It's cool to watch the interaction between two pets.
by Jo Firey
- They can keep each other company when the humans aren't around.
- Each human can have a lap occupant.
by Seanette Blaylock
- You don't have to refrigerate half-cans of cat food! (You can split one can between the two of them.)
by Evelyn Vogt Gamble
- Watching them play together is better than television.
- In a cold climate, they help keep you warm at night.
- You get purrs in stereo.
by Brenda Watkins
- If an object of interest (plant/hair clump/paper/crumb/little piece of mystery "something" on the carpet) is overlooked by one, surely the other will find it and eat it.
- They play with each other when the humans are asleep instead of trying to wake up the humans!
by Karen Chuplis
- With 7 of them, one is bound to be in every room. (Unless there are any "kitty cliques".)
by Jill M. Tricco
- You get double the warmth on a cold winter's night - one for the feet - one for the ears.
by Shas
- Twice as much trouble, twice as much fun.... I like my kitties with attitude.
by Marcia Newell
- I can watch one cat roll on the floor in hysterical laughter while I take the other one to the vet.
by Bob M.
- You get twice the love.
