HOLIDAY CATS

Christmas Eve Entertainment

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house -
not a creature was stirring except for a mouse!

He was trying to hide from a big, stalking cat -
he was running around, going this way and that!

He hid in a stocking - which wasn't too bright -
for kitty just reached up and took a big bite!

"Ouch!" mousie squealed, as he made his retreat,
leaping onto the mantle, only to meet - the cat!
(he was faster and sure on his feet!)

For kitty knew mouse had just one way to go
so he thought he could put a quick end to this show!

But mouse used his brakes and he did a fast spin,
and he jumped down to land in a large popcorn tin!

"Hey," mouse exclaimed, "now this isn't too shabby -
I'll just have a snack while I hide from that tabby."

But down through the popcorn came two furry paws -
so mousie sank deeper, away from those claws!

He stayed very quiet not moving a muscle -
until he was sure that he heard not a rustle
from kitty above!

(did the pest finally stop?)
So mouse made his way through the corn to the top.

He poked his head out and he took in the view.
"Oh no!" cried the mouse, "Now what do I do?

This isn't a one kitty house - they have two!"
(and perhaps even more behind every door!)

So he burrowed back down and he rested his feet.
"If I'm stuck here," he said, "then I may as well eat."

Then when he was certain they all were at rest,
he made a quick exit and ran to his nest.

"Phew," mousie said, as he shivered with fright,
"That's the last time I wander through this house at night!"

While each kitty dreamed, all snuggled in bed,
of other mouse chases which still lay ahead.
