Esther's Kitty

In January 1999, I adopted a gorgeous puss to join our little family. My son Joshua (5yo) loves kitties and has been looking forward to this day for a long time. My sister had offered to get us a cat from a cat shelter when we were ready, so I decided to take her up on her offer.

Alexander We went to the local cat rescue centre (Cat Protection Society, in Melbourne) and allowed a cat to choose us. We looked at all the kitties, but one cat was on Josh's mind ... I want this cat! he said as he petted a very affectionate cream & white tom. Every cage we visited Josh would insist that he wanted the other cat. Finally we re-visited the cage with the cream & white tom, and the kitty would not leave us alone. He was smooching and purring and weaving in and out of our legs. This cat needed our love, and we needed his. So, with the necessary arrangements taken care of, and adoption papers filled out, cat 685 was on his way to his new home.

Joshua chose a befitting name for our cat -- Alexander. He is male, desexed, 4 years old, and very handsome and affectionate. He has very long white whiskers, and lovely green-gold eyes.

Alexander in the laundry tub The day we brought Alexander home, we settled him into his bed in the laundry. We stayed with him for several hours, but later in the afternoon we had to do some shopping. When we returned home from purchasing some more kitty things, Josh headed straight for the laundry to see Alexander. The look of horror on Josh's face when Alexander wasn't where we'd left him (in his bed) was priceless! It took a quick look around to realise Alexander was sharing the laundry tub with a bucket of clothes!

Alexander Alexander was very thin and shy when we first brought him home, but things have certainly changed since then. He has filled-out remarkably well. He has a good appetite and lets us and visitors know when he wants cuddles.

He sleeps on the bed with me almost every night. I know this because he often wakes me with his loud purring and nose-to-nose nuzzling. He also likes to sniff my eyelids, this wakes me too because I can feel his cool, wet nose on my eye!

The picture on the left was taken in December 1999. A bright, healthy, happy kitty. I couldn't imagine life without my Alexander now... I love him heaps!
