Harri the Fashion Critic Roadcat

The weather on the west coast has been kind of sunny recently (aside from the last week) so I decided it was time to pick up a hat to keep from crisping my mostly-bald head. I went into the truck stop convenience store last night and bought a couple of baseball caps.

Harri has never seen me wear a ball cap before. This morning as we were preparing to pull out I put on my sunglasses and a ball cap. An hour or so later Harri came up on my lap like usual for an arm snuggle, and that's when she noticed the ball cap.

She lay on her back in my arms staring fixedly at the ball cap for a few minutes. Then she sat up and began sniffing the bill of the cap. Then she started pushing on it, hard, with her nose. Then the paws came up and shoved it off my head.

Later in the day I put it back on, then Harri up for another arm snuggle. Once again it was sniff, nudge, paw until it came off. I guess she just doesn't like ball caps.

March 26, 2005: I'm finally catching on! This afternoon we had to drop a trailer at the rail yard in French Camp. It was sunny and breezy and a little chilly so I put my cap on when I got out of the truck to unhook. I finished up, climbed back into the truck, and got us checked out of the rail yard.

As soon as we were rolling again Harri jumped up in my lap. I immediately took my cap off to save her the trouble of knocking it off. As soon as I did Harri sat up tall and washed the entire right side of my face. It was as if she was saying "Good human! Since you took that ugly thing off I'll give you an extra-special face washing as a reward". And I appreciated it - even when it tickled.
