CAT PHILES

Pondering About Kitties

Flirting

Mango
Mango

Having 3 male cats and 3 female cats one would have expected that they would have bonded in such a way as to form 3 couples. But cats being cats, this has not worked out.

Of the 3 male cats, Monty is a real thug. Despite his muscular physique and glossy black coat, he is still thug. Consequently none of the females like him. Then there's Vincent who is such a sweetheart (in my eyes). He's a tad on the podgy side but oh so cuddly. However, having been castrated before he developed any "male" characteristics Vinnie is more like one of the girls, than one of the boys. So that leaves Sonic who is a tall, gentle, lanky red head. Not too male, like Monty, not to female, like Vincent. Despite his occasional acne and bladder stones, Sonic is the favourite of all 3 girls.

Now out of the girls, Mango is Sonic's #1. They were kittens together so have a very special bond. Tink is the next "woman" in Sonic's life. They sit together out in the garden and sometimes share the same cushion. Furthermore, Sonic is the only cat that doesn't pick on her, could he be a sensitive new aged feline (SNAF)? Now that leaves Moggy, who is the most recent member of this bunch, and is still getting to know Sonic.

Lately she has been making an real effort and has become quite the flirt. On Saturday night Moggy tried her hardest to snuggle up to Sonic. However she is still too shy to sit really close to him. First she stared at the chair he was sitting on for a very long time. After watching this for a while I decided to intervene by lifting her onto the chair and by removing a twig that was stuck to her nose (she's trying to impress him, no need to make her look anymore the fool).

Next she lay right on the very edge of the chair. She was trying to sit as far away from him as she could. Now the chair is quite small so she was half hanging off. After five minutes or so she tried to do a flirty roll, at which point she fell of the chair. I lifted her back onto the chair again, and moved Sonic over so that she would have more room. She gave up on the flirty rolls, to my relief, and settled down to sleep on the edge of the chair looking very uncomfortable. Moggy tried this again on Sunday night, she was a little more graceful this time, but she still avoided coming into contact with him. Throughout this whole thing Sonic sat their looking half amused and half afraid.

Poor ol’ Moggy. I do hope she has another “go” at Sonic tonight though. However I admit that this is more for my amusement than for any sincere interest in the Moggy-Sonic relationship.
