Furnace Trouble? No!

This morning I lowered myself into the bathtub and relaxed. Meanwhile, Emily our grey mischief-maker jumped down from the sink cabinet and stretched out on the bathmat on the floor. She looked at me, struck a cute pose, and meowed loudly. This called for a reply. I told her she was a glorious cat, a beautiful cat, a world-class cat. Satisfied, she meowed agreement and closed her eyes. A minute later while lying in the tub I heard a strange, irregular rumble, rising and falling. We have a noisy furnace (actually it's a boiler - we have hot water radiators), and I worried that it was giving trouble. Then I located the rumble's source. It was Emily's purrs at all my flattery, amplified by the hard-surfaced bathroom walls! Repair money saved, a contented cat - the morning had started well.
