A couple of weeks ago we had to go out of town for my husband to have a medical evaluation. We left Moxie at the vet's because she was not doing well and needed medication for a liver problem. The following morning, the vet called and said Moxie had died in her sleep. That night in the motel room, I was lying on one of the beds unwinding and trying to get to sleep. My husband was on the bed to my left, watching TV While lying there, I distinctly heard Moxie's "merrp" she always made when greeting us or before jumping up on the bed. The sound was to my right and slightly lower than the surface of the bed.
I made sure I was fully awake and not dreaming, but did not say anything to my husband because we were both upset and I thought it might be hard on him. About 4:00AM (I don't remember the exact time any longer), the smoke alarm in our room went off. We do not smoke and there was no smoke in the room. I called the front desk and was told that nothing was going on. Our room was the only one affected.
The next morning, I asked my husband if he had heard anything strange in addition to the smoke alarm. He said that he had heard Moxie's "merrp" next to the bed I was on, to my right and lower than the bed. I asked him why he didn't say anything at the time and he said he thought I was asleep.
This is our experience. You can draw your own conclusions.
