HAPPINESS IS...
This is a list of what happiness means for cat-lovers
Happiness is:
- ... when the slightly aloof Basil climbs onto my lap for a cuddle.
- ... when Basil decides to spend the night sleeping on the bed with me instead of on "his" chair.
- ... when Bella snuggles on my lap, then reaches up to give me kitty kisses and stares lovingly into my eyes.
- ... the smell of Bella's fur which is just like freshly baked bread... (except for the one time I bathed her and she smelt of cat shampoo for days... ughh never again!!!)
by Teresa James
Happiness is:
- ... Watching my two skittish kitty-witties Harvey Dunce and Cody run around.
- ... Seeing the "Dunce eyes".
- ... Dunce running around and chasing imaginary things then looking at you with the "dunce eyes".
- ... When Harvey Dunce pees (in the actual toilet!) then she turns around and looks at it.
- ... Calling my kittens BABIES in a high voice and then watching them run away from me!
by Snowrider
Happiness is:
- ... Loud meows by our 16-year-old deaf kitty, Tommi letting us know she is wanting attention at 2:00AM.
- ... When Tommi walks in the park with us and everyone can't believe what they see.
- ... When all 10 of my babies are inside safe on a cold winter day.
- ... Taking Tommi for a ride in the car.
- ... Watching Tommi play in the water at the park when we hang out there.
- ... Loving all my kitties.
by Marcia Williams
Happiness is:
- ... Matilda using my forearm as a pillow.
- ... Matilda lying between my arm and chest, all her four up in the air.
- ... Matilda lying on my belly, fore legs crossed, her head on them and watchingme attentively, knowing that I don't mind her doing that when I am trying to watch TV.
- ... Matilda sitting in front of her bowl, looking at me patiently, saying nothing, confident that I will rush to pour some food on her bowl.
- ... The grateful look of a hungry, scared stray cat when I feed her.
by Ralph Ruhig
Happiness is:
- ... Sparkplug following me into the bathroom and watching me shave my legs.
- ... Brahms carefully watching the smaller kittens as they play.
- ... Walking into my mother’s house and having seventeen cats pounce on me and purr.
- ... Waking up to find a multitude of meowing fuzz balls sleeping with me.
- ... Having an "intelligent conversation" with a group of cats.
- ... Watching kittens wreak havoc inside the house on a rainy day.
- ... Watching Sparkplug gallop from room to room.
- ... Hearing excited meows when I come home from school.
- ... Never having to worry about getting bored because my cat has an endless supply of energy.
Anon.
Happiness is:
- ... When Mouse walks through the sliding door meowing rapidly for food.
- ... When he lies down and curls up next to me in bed.
- ... When Mouse HOGS the bed and I end up sleeping on the floor.
- ... Mouse Looking Lost.
- ... His Black Silky Fur.
- ... His Soft Cute Ears.
- ... The Way He makes any person like him (my aunty HATED cats, but now she doesn't because Mouse converted her).
- ... Being Gentle, no matter how annoying you are to him he wont attack you.
- ... His Cute Face.
- ... The inncoent look he'll give when he wants his 5th feed.
by Talica Tamanitoakula
Happiness is:
- ... A cold, dreary Louisiana day with rain pounding on the glass, a wonderful book and a bed you never want to leave as you are surrounded by seven furry, purry beasties all demanding to be petted. Which of course leads to a cat nap!
by Mechele de Avila
Happiness is:
- ... rubbing noses with Manny.
- ... Sophie, for "grooming" my hair & face when she wants me to get up in the morning.
- ... Bugsy, for chasing & retrieving a ball down the hallway.
- ... Malone, for her dramatic change from ALWAYS hiding under the bed from EVERYONE to becoming a sociable member of the household who never ceases to amaze us with her sweet, outgoing, funny antics & her soft cuddles.
by Mary Woods
Happiness is:
- ... Princess Saffi waking me by gently patting my eye with her paw while purring extra loudly.
- ... Licorice & Saffi running to the door when I get home from work. I can actually hear them galloping along the hallway from outside!
- ... the look of adoration I receive when I turn on the heating after Princess Saffi has been attempting to stare it into action.
- ... Licorice jumping onto my chest as soon as I lie down and head-butting me affectionately.
by Angelika Mueller
Happiness is:
- ... letting Maddie spend her first night out of confinement, and A) waking up in the middle of the night to find her curled up asleep under my chin, and B) waking up in the morning to find minimal damage to the house and no 'accidents' anywhere! (Of course, Mehitabel and Lillybit do *not* share my happiness about this - their noses are even further out of joint, if that's even possible, at the temerity of her spending part of the night on *their* bed.)
- ... seeing Tye feeling good enough, and with enough vision restored, to be able to enthusiastically chase Da Bird around on top of the bed for the first time since January (which he did last night).
by Beth Mehitabel
Happiness is:
- ... when I rescued Gizmo from "The Basement", to nurture and love him back to good health.
- ... when Gizmo finally stopped sneezing green goo on my face, when his fur finally came clean, and he delighted me with his lovely brown eyes.
- ... when Earl the Pearl and Sir Timothy understood that Gizmo was here to stay, and then they all played chase.
- ... when Sir Timothy delights me with his glorious belly, in the most elegant spread eagle.
- ... when my lovely Earl calls for "mama" to come visit him on the steps, and tells me about his day.
- ... when Sir Timothy decides its "Time", and comes to snurgle for a spell.
- ... when I see all 3 of my babies, and I know they all love me for me.
by Dee Taylor
Happiness is:
- ... King on my shoulders grooming me and purring his brains out.
- ... King standing on me in the tub, kneading and purring his brains out.
- ... His Royal Highness sleeping under the covers with just his head sticking out on my shoulder. (Not usual, but cuter than heck!)
by Dave C.

- ... a dope like Jessi lying on her back, paws out, on your belly, purring at full power.
by Central Scrutinizer
Happiness is:
- ... coming home from vacation and having four cats (and one d*g) completely fall in love with you all over again!
by Laurie Halliday
Happiness is:
- ... people who haven't even met them, taking my furry babies into their hearts.
- ... kitty Ashleigh really loving the taste of her daily tablet.
- ... my nearly blind little kitty Ashleigh being able to bomb up and down the stairs because she can make out the black strips on the edge of each step.
- ... my vet phoning me this morning to tell me baby Ashleigh's latest blood tests came back NORMAL - PERFECT NORMAL RESULTS!
- ... my new cat tower that my little almost blind kitty Ashleigh can negotiate easily because it has a wide wood pole that the layers sit on, which slopes at an angle, and fake leaves she loves batting.
- ... my feral, who is tolerant of being touched in short doses, actually *playing* with my finger, gently, no claws, no fear, while I wiggled and scratched it about for her, (while she was in sphinx position, but totally relaxed), for the very first time today [Very Big Grin].

- ... having all three furry bodies nestled on the bed with me when I'm down with a bad headache.
- ... coming home to an enthusiastic 3-cat welcoming committee after a hard day at work.
- ... having so many joyful memories of all our special cats who are waiting to be reunited with us at the Rainbow Bridge.
by Suzi Q
Happiness is:
- ... Walking through my hayfield in the morning sun with my pal, Copycat, on my shoulders. She loves to be carried around the farm and loves to be held and cuddled. It's great to see her happy, healthy, content... considering the way she looked when she wandered onto our farm two years ago. Thin, sick and nursing six sickly kittens. To think the kittens all have homes now, Copycat is healthy and that all ended well is a joy!
by Idaholake
Happiness is:

- ... Oscar barking and drooling during his scritches.
- ... reading Yowie's post about a midnight snuggle-fest.

Happiness is:
- ... interruptions to Gracie's bath time brief enough that she doesn't bother retracting her tongue while she waits.
by Karl
Happiness is:
- ... the first tentative brush of fur and the first purr from a feral.
- ... hanging out with people who think little steps like this are a big deal and take such great pleasure in it. (I think I'll go scritch my formerly feral Rosie and hug Moxie and Cinder.)

- ... Eskimo kisses from Lucy after a long day at work.
by Vicki Jarvis
Happiness is:
- ... reading over 1500 posts and seeing no childish flame wars.
- ... finding a whole bunch of cat lovers in one place who like the same humor, books, and movies as I do.
- ... a group that hopes a missing WEB-TVer returns soon instead of mocking them.
- ... knowing I can let my 8 kitties (Doofy, Ting, Manny, Mo, J.J. (just Jack), Puffer, Booger, and Sumo) play in the sunshine without being scolded as a bad pet owner.
- ... being accepted by such a wonderful, witty and caring group of cat lovers such as yourselves.

Happiness is:
- ... curling up in bed on a cold night to watch a documentary about cats, with The Cat curled up on your tummy purring and drooling for all she's worth.
- ... watching The Cat sleep, knowing that she's warm and that her furry little tummy is full of fresh lamb and milk.
- ... brushing The Cat then sitting back to gaze with pride upon her glossy, sleek, healthy and well cared for fur coat.
- ... watching said fur coat fluff gently in the breeze coming through the window as The Cat suns herself in a stray beam of sunlight.
- ... going to bed at night knowing that all The Cats needs have been seen to that day - her litter box has been cleaned and changed, her dishes washed and refilled with food, her coat brushed and deflea-ed, The Cat herself wormed - and feeling her curled up by your side (under the covers) as you drift off to sleep.
- ... being able to restrain yourself from killing The Cat because she's indirectly caused you to break your brand new $500 dollar pair of spectacles (I hid them from The Cat, because she thinks they're the best cat toy ever invented, then forgot I'd put them under the pillow as I knelt on the bed. CRACK. Broken glasses and no money to fix them with till the end of the
year). If she wasn't so darn cute and lovable (and loved) she'd be fur-lined underwear by now.
by Maryrose Lockerbie
Happiness is:
- ... being able to take Tony to the hospital with me.
- ... knowing I got Zeke re-homed somewhere where they really love him.
- ... reading Dave Yehudah's stories and being glad I'm not his house mate (neighbor or fly one the wall would be good alternatives though).
by Bridget
Happiness is:
- ... when Djoser finally came slinking back to the house at 10:30PM after hiding out for hours after a stray dog chased and terrorized him. I checked him thoroughly. No physical wounds; just psychic. He needed and got lots of loving. Now the door is kept locked to make it a bit harder for a cat to slip out between one's feet. He has also been known to open the door by jumping at the latch! It is a push lever.
- ... walking around outside looking for flowers and watching the cats zoom around the yard and bouncing off the trees and rolling in the dirt on the first warm day of Spring.
- ... the melting look Djoser gives me as he is sitting in my lap getting petted.

by Joyce W.
Happiness is:
- ... soft tummies and loud purrs.
by Karen Chuplis
Happiness is:
- ... Robin's evening ritual. As soon as I get horizontal in bed, he climbs up onto my chest and plunks himself down. He is a looooong cat so this means his rear end is on my abdomen and his front paws are up near my neck. This is practically the only time I get to experience his purring as it is totally inaudible -- you can only experience it by having contact with his body -- yes, he is a contact purrer! We talk for a little while and then he chews meditatively on the end of my nose for a few minutes and wanders off to do something more interesting. Occasionally he settles down for 10-15 minutes (the maximum extent of his attention span, I think).
- ... Sasha coming up for a quick round of squishy-squishy while Robin (who regards me as his personal property) isn't looking. For her purposes, I am usually the squishiest thing around (sigh). Her high-horsepower purr would wake the dead, so it's probably just as well she doesn't like to sleep with her human.
by Kate Alexandra Lingley

by Mark Edwards

- ... when your kitty hugs and kisses you.
by Misty
Happiness is:

- ... when Smudge curls up on my chest and decides to wash me to while he's bathing.
by Raven Tompkins

- ... a world where every cat is healthy, well fed, warm and most importantly, LOVED .
by Shirley Holland
Happiness is:
- ... being allowed to wake up *naturally* (without kitty assistance).
- ... the shape of kitty ears.
- ... a pointy kitten tail.
- ... a pile of bodies (fur & bare) curled up together on the lounge under the doona, staying up extra late to watch the Midnight Hammer Horror while sharing the snackies on a freezing winter's night, listening to the wind howl and the rain beat a heavy tattoo against the window glass and being so snug and warm you all fall asleep together, and knowing that it doesn't get any better than this.
by Vicky Chapman
