Daytona is very litterbox dependent. In fact you cannot truly appreciate this fact or this story without visiting this page: Where's the litter? Take a peek, then continue reading. As I was playing Neopets (yes, I'm addicted!), I heard Daytona crying in the bathroom. At first I thought she was wanting a drink from the sink faucet. But when I stepped in, she was in front of the litterbox. She peeked her head in, took it out and cried some more. I knew that I was due for a litterbox change and I was going to do that tomorrow. But something told me she wanted it changed NOW! So I proceeded to get the necessary supplies.
The whole time she was weaving in and out of my path and crying at the top of her lungs. I took the old litter out in its liner bag and set it aside. She began getting very frantic at this point. If I hadn't squirted dishwashing detergent in the box, she would have gone in the box! As I scrubbed it out, she started acting more and more desperate. I had to stop her from squatting on the liner containing the old litter. (It was tied shut, for Pete's sake!)
I started to dry off the box before placing the new liner. She got up on her hind toes, put her front paws on the box and peeked her head over. I could tell she was trying to figure out how to jump in. I finally put the box down, with new liner, and she crawled in. Normally at this point I heard a soft hiss-like sound as she pees into the empty liner. (I told you that you wouldn't appreciate this without seeing the picture first!) Instead, I heard a PLOP! PLOP! I thought, "She can't be!" But she was - Daytona was going #2 into an empty litter box!!!!
You will be thankful to know that did not take a picture of this. You will also be thankful to know that I immediately covered it up with litter before she had a chance to try to bury it in imaginary dirt. I'm sure the result would have been quite messy.
