During the hot summer months, cats can become very easily dehydrated from the heat. It is important to keep your cats cool and here are some ways you can prepare for the long, hot days.
- Freeze large blocks of ice, for their water dishes, so their water stays cool.
- Get several of the freezer packs "Blue Ice" or similar brands and freeze them. Each morning wrap one in a towel and leave it on a cool tile floor, or even in the tub. The cats will discover how handy it is, and they will use it when they need it. It will stay cool for about twelve hours, or longer if in a cooler room.
- Keep the shades drawn, but leave the windows open a little to allow for a cross breeze.
- Using a large box or cooler with the lid removed, create an ice cave with the Blue Ice. Because heat rises and cool air sinks, you can build a "pool" of cooler air.
