Memories of a friend.Years ago, when the 286 was the top of the line computer and I actually read computer magazines, I realized that AOL was a good source of floppy disks. So, I would fill out the reply card that came with each computer magazine and send it in. However, instead of my name I would put the name of our little cat, Kitty Bear, as Kitty B. Rorer.
I also did the same thing with the catalog reply cards. So when we got mail addressed thus or a phone call asking to speak to Kitty it was automatically thrown away or hung up on, though sometimes I would lead on the caller a bit just for the fun of it.
One day I got a call from someone asking to speak to Kitty. I asked who it was, to be told that "It's between me (the caller) and Kitty!" I replied that I would have to know who it was and why he was calling first, only to be told that he would only talk to her.
At this point I launched into a tirade "You must be another one of that b****'s boyfriends! She gets too many g***** d**** personal calls! This is a place of business G** D*** it! If that m***** f***ing b**** gets any more f***ing personal calls she's out of here! At this point I hung up the phone and burst into laughter.
Eventually I quit bothering with computer magazines or sending in reply cards and we haven't gotten any mail addressed to Kitty B. Rorer for years now. Many was the time she would curl up in my lap while I sat at the computer. But Kitty passed away last year at the age of 16. The vet thought it was cancer. Now all I have of my dear friend are memories such as this.
