CAT PHILES

Pam and Berfert

Long Hair and the Cat

Things have been peaceful, cat wise, here at the Shirk Mansion, lately. We won't talk about the kids, however, as Amanda turned 13 on February 8th and is now an official teen. This means they can now legally bicker 24/7. The cats practically live in my room to get away from the two of them.

My hair is almost long enough to sit on and fine textured. It doesn't look like there's a lot of it, but it can be deceiving. I keep my hair in a bun on my head at work and take it out at night and comb it and sleep with it down. I used to braid it, but almost strangled myself with the braid one night. So I tend to sleep with my hair spread out over the pillow and sometimes even hanging off the side of the bed. Berfert loves my hair. He loves to curl up in it and snuggle up against the back of my head surrounded by a Pam hair pillow. I don't mind as a rule as he keeps my neck warm. Besides, he doesn't snore as loud as Tanada. Tanada loves to sleep on Rob's side of the bed as I keep the electric blanket turned on so they don't get their little kitty toesies cold. I don't spoil my kitties one bit. QC usually sleeps in her nestie, but sometimes sleeps at the foot of Rob's side of the bed.

Last night I had combed out my hair as usual and got ready for bed. I usually read for a half hour or more to relax before falling asleep and last night was no difference. Berfert was snuggled in his usual place, in my hair, with his chin resting on my ear apparently reading my fantasy book with me. Tanada was sitting meatloaf style on Rob's side of the bed Watching the 10th Kingdom with me. QC was nowhere to be found. All was peaceful. Right?

All of a sudden, QC shoots into the room and heads for her nestie. She apparently stopped short as she could see my hair spilling off the bed and hanging over the side. What fun!! The next thing I know, QC is batting and combing my hair with her little kitty comb claws. Berfert is regretting that he let his tail dangle over the side, as it is QC's main target, my hair just adds more fun. She actually gets his tail in her grasp as he leaps to his feet, in my hair. Tanada jumps to her feet and spins around as she is wondering where that high pitched siren noise is coming from. QC is regretting that she came anywhere near my hair as she now has 3'+ strands of hair caught between her toes. It will take a lot of work to get rid of it. Berfert is wondering why Meowmy is levitating out of the bed, and I'm wondering how big of a bald spot I'll be covering in the morning.

We finally got it all sorted out. I picked all the strands from between QC's toes, which took a while because QC's toes are ticklish and she don't like them touched by anyone's hands. Berfert was depressed for a while as he had to forgo the company of my hair. Tanada never did figure out where the siren came from, but she thought it was really funny watching me pull hair from between QC's hairy toes and QC was trapped and cursing me for around fifteen minutes.

I still have a bit of a sore spot on the back of my head where QC got me, but I can chuckle about it now. Berfert is a little shy now because of the trauma of having his mattress so rudely moved on him, and I don't think QC is going to be chasing Berfert's tail anymore. It's just too hairy.
