CAT PHILES

Life with Furballs

Look before you leap

A few years ago, we lived in Suffolk England. It was a horrible, damp little row house that we lived in. Since I had moved to England from Las Vegas, I was not used to the cold, damp weather. The only time I was *ever* warm was when I was neck deep in the tub. The tub in that drafty old mausoleum of a house was fantastic. I could lay completely flat in it and not touch either end. It was also about twice as deep as your average tub. There was a huge window at the end that faced to the South, so, on the rare occasion that the sun made an appearance, the whole bathroom was flooded with sunlight. It was wonderful. It was also one of Lucy's favorite places to nap.

One day, I was trying to get as much of my frozen self under the warm water as possible. About all that was sticking out of the water was my face. If I could have figured out how to breathe under water, I would have. As I was laying there in the steaming water, I heard the door open. I assumed it was Rob coming to tell me that I needed to get out of the tub before I got too pruny. I opened my eyes just in time to see an angle of my Lucy's immense belly that I never want to see again. She had jumped straight into the tub, apparently without looking first, and was about to land on my face. We both realized what was about to happen at the same time. And, we both let out blood curdling shrieks. I closed my eyes and braced myself for the pain that I knew was coming................

What? No pain?.......No bleeding?......... I sat up and looked around the room. There wasn't a cat anywhere to be seen, now I'm wondering if I imagined it all. About this time Rob shows up to find out what all the screaming was about. Upon inspecting a very hostile and put out Lucy cat, we discovered that she had one, slightly damp back foot! There wasn't a drop of water anywhere else on her. I don't know how she did it, but my Lucy can either walk on water or levitate!!
