CAT PHILES

At home with the cats

The Mighty Hunters (not)

Friday morning (after Thanksgiving), I performed my usual task of stripping all of the edible meat off of the turkey and storing it in plastic bags. These bags fit better in the refrigerator than the whole turkey does. My wife suggested that before I disposed of the remains, that we should put the platter onto the floor and invite the cats to have a go at it (supervised of course).

We called the cats and tried to communicate to them that it was OK to have at it. Tabby-tha took one sniff and retreated as if she were frightened. Penny sniffed at it and decided that although it smelled like food, she had no clue as to how to get at it. We figured that Cat-rina (our reformed feral) would know what to do, but she, like Penny, could not figure out how to get to the food.

Finally, we tore off some scraps, and put them literally under the noses of the cats. Only Cat-rina had a few nibbles - the rest wandered off uninterested. Cats - how do you account for them?
