Millie's Poems: 4

My Mistake
by "Muffet"

This morning I went for a walk in the sun,
And thought I'd go out in the woods, just for fun.

I was walking along as gay as could be
When I noticed an odd looking thing by a tree.

It sat real still, didn't even wink,
And I said to myself, "Let me think..."

"I saw a picture like that in a book,"
So I went up closer for a better look.

It didn't have feathers, or fur or fin,
But looked like a cushion with pins stuck in.

It didn't move move from its head to its toes,
So I went up and poked it with my nose.

That's where I made my mistake, you see,
For some of its pins stuck into me.

I turned around and started to run.
Had I been in a race I'd surely have won.

When I got home I jumped on Mom's bed.
"You've got porcupine quills in your nose", she said.

Doug got the pliers and said "Come here,
I'll get them out of you, never fear."

He pulled them out, I knew he would.
And when they were out, it sure felt good.

Doug said as he gave me a playful swipe,
"Don't try to wear quills, you're not the type."
