CAT PHILES

Pam and Berfert

Protecting Grandma

We stayed with Rob's parents while hunting for an apartment to live in while Rob was in Korea the last time. They loved cats, but with both of them gone all the time, had not replaced their beloved cat, Leo, after he crossed the bridge. They got a kick out of their grandkitties and the grandkitties loved them too.

Berfert was particularly fond of Grandmeow and would follow her all around her back yard in the evenings. He seemed to be thinking a lot. One evening we walked the cats out into the yard and Berfert dashed ahead of Grandmeow into their freshly plowed garden, dug frantically in the dirt an came back with a large worm in his mouth. He placed the worm at Grandmeow's feet and looked up at her as if to say "Here Grandmeow, it can't harm you now." Mom laughed and praised Berfert for protecting her from the "nasty worm." Berfert strutted around the house for days, basking in the glow of Grandmeow's approval. He had protected another of his humans.
