CAT PHILES

Tails from the Summer Kingdom

Sabra & the Shadows

Well, there I was, sitting on the porcelain Cat Petting Throne. It is called the Cat Petting Throne, because Sabra decided long ago that the reason humans sit on the thing is in order to pet him. Each time my hubby or I sit down, there he is, expecting to get petted. It's particularly bizarre when he gets overly excited from the petting, and bites our thighs!

So there I am on the Cat Petting Throne. It's a beautiful sunny day outside, and the sun is shining through the window, reflecting light on a piece of cloth hanging over a magazine rack that holds our bathroom essentials. I move ever so slightly, and notice Sabra out of the corner of my eye. He isn't coming over for his pets. Instead, he is sitting in front of the magazine rack, staring at the cloth. What in the world is he looking at, I wonder? As I scratch my head, Sabra gets quite excited. I look, and realize that my shadow is there amidst the light patch on the cloth, and Sabra is quite fascinated. I move my hands up to the light, and move them around and around, watching Sabra get really excited. Now, I never was good at doing those little animals with your hands in the light deals, but I'm giving it a try. I move my fingers like a bird with wings. I crawl my open hand across the light like a skittering spider. And Sabra is utterly fascinated. I start giggling out loud, but he's fixated. Finally, I move my head from side to side, watching Sabra follow it like it's a tennis match.

And he never did come up to receive his petting from the Cat Petting Throne.
