CAT PHILES

The Highland Furkids

The Blanket Patrol

We learned some time ago that Ranger likes blankets. He likes to nap on them, but he also like to carry them around the house with him. We've got a bunch of small throws, around 4 feet by 5 feet, in several areas of the house (a couple on the futons, one on the back of each chair, etc). We got tired of Ranger pulling the throws off the furniture, so we got him a couple of his own. We'll leave one in the living room and one on our bed when we leave for work in the morning, and when we get home we'll find one or both them somewhere else in the house. He's even pulled the blanket from the bedroom (upstairs) down to the basement.

It's quite a sight to see - Ranger walking down the hallway, one corner of the blanket in his mouth, the rest of the blanket between his legs, as he walks stiff-legged trying not to step on it.

But Monday night he outdid himself. It has finally gotten chilly in central Iowa, so Nancy put an extra blanket on our bed. Not a lightweight blanket or a small throw, but a full queen-sized heavy-weight blanket. Tuesday afternoon when I got home I found that heavy blanket down in the dining room. It had been tucked under the mattress that morning. Ranger must have had to really work to get it loose, let alone manage to haul it down stairs.

That little guy takes his blanket-management responsibilities quite seriously.

UPDATE: September 19, 2007 - It appears that Ranger has decided that his blanket management responsibilities have grown. Last night Nancy came to bed she again got the extra blanket out of the closet and pulled it over herself. Early in the morning she woke up, quite cold. During the night Ranger had pulled the blanket off her and out into the hallway! I'm thinking it must have been infested with greeblings, and that's the only way he could ensure the safety of his Meowmie.
