CATASTROPHES

The Yarn Monster

We were having a snowstorm so I decided to just relax and do some work on the quilt I am crocheting. The basket of balled yarn was at my feet and I was surrounded with all 14 cats who reside here and seldom all come in at the same time.

My young man Gilly decided to check out the yarn as I gently tugged at it to continue my work. He was fascinated with the ball in the basket that would move every once in awhile. I noticed him but figured he would give up and sleep like the rest of the kitties. Gilly soon got the ball out of the basket and it rolled across the wood floors of my room. A few of the cats had opened their eyes and were sleepily watching Gilly play with the ball, who soon got his hind leg tangled in the yarn. As soon as Gilly realized that he was caught he panicked and ran but the yarn monster kept chasing him. He leaped up on the table and ran between a vase of fake flowers and a big jar containing dog biscuits. The yarn monster threw the vase and jar on to the floor with a roaring crash. All the noise had every cat running for hiding places while the dogs ran to get the spilled dog bones and I ran after Gilly to collect the yarn monster. His eyes were huge and he was howling MMMMMaaaaa as I gently untangled his legs.

As soon as Gilly was free he ran for unknown hiding spots and didn't venture out until much later after everyone had settled down for the night. I put away my crocheting for another day but the yarn monster is still there, laying in the bottom of my yarn basket.
