CAT PHILES

Tales From Outer Magnolia

Training

It's hot here at the moment (forecast top today of 34C / 93F) and Ted is not happy. She is normally prone to being grumpy, but when its hot she really turns it on. Last night she perfected the "***-you" look (insert your preferred expletive) as she lay full-stretch on the floor tying to find a cool spot to sleep. Of course it's all our fault. If we'd only turn the bloody heating down to a sensible level then a cat could sleep in peace.

She's also unhappy because, despite years of patient training, her humans are just not taking to the lessons. Take last night, for example. A hot and very grumpy cat decided that a midnight snack would help to remedy her bad mood, so she put in a polite request for food (walking on my sleeping head and purring at me). She was speechless when her request was not only denied, but the cheeky lackey responded by turfing her off the bed. This was too much - it is, after all, Ted's bed ! (Ted's rule is "what is mine is mine and what is yours is mine too"). Even stinking d*gs are easier and quicker to train than humans! She spent the rest of the night sulking on a cool spot on the floor.

Speaking of d*gs, the heat has made them boneless as they lie around in unlikely poses. Last night Kendra (pocket-sized beagle) was spread-eagled on her back (legs as compass points) watching TV upside-down. It was the funniest thing. I was watching her eyes moving back and forth, following the action on TV. She doesn't normally watch TV, but I guess she decided that it made more sense upside-down! Ted, who was sitting on the couch next to her, was not amused and glared at Kendra to make her opinions known.
