We went away on holiday during the 6 to the 12 of October 2002 only to come back to the news that our beloved cat, Wap, Had been knocked over and killed on the main road at the top of our road. This was devastating news to the both of us.
My father had been coming to the house to feed both of our cats, Wap & Lucy while we where both away, and Wap had always been one for expanding his adventures. On this occasion I trust he went a bit too far.
Wap left us on the Friday evening and the event was seen by a friend of a neighbour to us and duly reported to her. The car didn't even stop ! On the Saturday morning when my dad came around to feed the troublesome two, He was told the unfortunate news by the neighbour. He then proceeded, during a heavy rain storm, to try and find Wap. He was found on the side of the road where it happened. He took him and buried him in his back garden.
My partner, pre Wap & Lugs (as we call her), was scared of cats and Wap had dissolved this to a minimum. She still had doubts about cats that she didn't know but Wap was her little chap.
He was such a nosey little one who was often found by the neighbours laid on their couch or casually seen walking around their abodes.
I decided to talk about this to you good people because it has really affected us. I have had and lost cats before in a previous marriage but none have affected me more than the death of Wap.
What will now happen to Lugs (Lucy's) progress without her mentor? To be honest, I don't think she has noticed yet. She certainly hasn't shown any signs of pining.
Lugs is a very timid little cat that we acquired from our local vet. Apparently she came from a large farm where no one actually looked after the farm cats, they had to all fend for themselves. She absolutely adored Wap and, as mentioned earlier, seemed to very much look up to him as her mentor.
She doesn't much venture out of the confides of the garden where as Wap would go a wandering daily. He would bring back the odd misfortunate rodent for Lugs to play with on the back lawn. I suppose she will have to look for her self now, so in the long run, a blessing in disguise. Maybe this will now be a building step of Lugs with her not being waited upon anymore. She now sleeps at the foot of the bed with us every night and I suppose has been a little more "lost" since the happening of Friday evening.
He will be so remembered by us.
