Ruth & Cera
My Aunt Ruth is the ultimate cat lover.Cera does not lack for Ruth's undivided affection, the choicest morsels, the latest toys or cat furniture. But Ruth has dared something no other cat lover I know has.
Cera longed for the outdoors, but Ruth was afraid she'd get into the road, be attacked by wild animals, or that someone would steal her. So she bought a harness and tether for Cera's outdoor excursions. Cera likes to wander, and sometimes gets her lead wrapped around the posts and furniture on Ruth's patio. Normally, this is not a problem, since Ruth keeps a close eye on her, and untangles her whenever she gets caught up.
On this occasion, it was a terrible disadvantage. Ruth's new neighbor had several dogs, and two Newfoundlanders jumped the electric fence when the neighbor accidentally left it off.
Ruth saw the dogs attacking Cera and leapt into action. She pulled Cera away from one of the dogs, which had grabbed the cat by the hindquarters and was shaking her. The dogs turned on Ruth, who wrapped her arms around Cera, and was trying to get the tether untied.
The dogs knocked Ruth over, and she screamed, hoping for help, all the while protecting Cera with her own body. She finally got into the house, and slammed the door. Cera was badly hurt, and the vet told Ruth she might have to have Cera put to sleep. With the same devotion that sent Ruth flying bodily to her rescue, Cera was nursed back to full health.
I know of NO other cat lover who has risked their own life as Ruth did to save Cera. Thus, Ruth is the ultimate cat lover.
