There's nothing quite like the sound of breaking glass at 5:00AM. That's what I was treated to this Monday morning, followed by by Felix charging across the bed, trying to escape the "toy" that had suddenly turned on him. Sitting bolt upright in bed, I saw the source of the commotion, or at least the aftermath. The wine glass I had been using last night and left on my bookshelf/wine rack had met it's end at the hands (paws?) of a curious cat. The clean-up process began immediately, with very different reactions from the cats. Sabrina was SO good, jumping to the top of the television to supervise, but mostly to stay out of the way until I was done. Felix on the other hand found the broom and the glassy remains fascinating, so he was imprisoned behind a closed bathroom door until I was reasonably sure there were nothing harmful left. Since I had to get ready for work at 6:00AM, I covered the area with an old blanket as a precaution until I got home, and have just finished re-cleaning and checking the floor to my satisfaction. At the very least it got me to rearrange things and keep the breakables out of his reach. Amazingly enough, in a year and a half, it's only the second thing they've broken. About a month after their arrival, Sabrina took a disliking to my Stanley Cup replica being on a shelf she wanted to sleep on and pushed it off the edge. She got her way, though. I've left that shelf for her ever since. It was the end of an eventful weekend for Felix. Friday, he interrupted my reading by falling of the scanner, dragging it, my speakers, and their related cords to the ground. No damage to feline, or electronics fortunately, just a very confused kitty wondering why his favorite sleeping spot suddenly threw him off.
Well, I can see how concerned they are about all this. Sabrina's been asleep on the monitor for the last hour, and Felix has sprawled out in front of the keyboard, and currently has a paw wrapped around one of my arms, so I'm typing this with two fingers of the free hand. Gotta love 'em.
