CAT PHILES

Brian's Chronicles

Wildlife Adventures

My black short hair, Schrodinger (Okay, I have my reasons for naming him that.), had an interesting adventure last night.

First of all, realize that I live in the middle of a National Forest. Anyway, after spending the day lounging on my bed, he decided late that evening that he wanted to go outside. So, I opened the kitchen door to let him out. Schrodinger has nearly always lived in the forest, so he knows how to handle himself safely out there.

Anyway, when I opened the screen door, I saw a raccoon out there! Well, the 'coon thought this was an invitation to come into the house! He started to come right up to the door before I realized what was going on. At that moment, Schrodinger decided to voice his opinion of the stranger, and started to growl threateningly. I responded by starting to close the screen door. The last thing I wanted was a raccoon checking out my house for food.

The 'coon came right up to the screen door, and stood up on his hind legs to look in the window. I wasn't about to let the cat out before the 'coast was clear', as they say. Anyway, that raccoon hung around for a while before he finally gave up and left. Eventually I was able to let the cat out for the night to do his thing. (Hey, he keeps mice from even getting the opportunity to enter the house. I have no complaints on that.)

Okay, so it's a small adventure. But I think it was exciting enough at the time. Schrodinger always checks the area before leaving the house. This is probably the reason why.
